HISTORY: Michael ranks as the greatest of all the angels in Christian, Jewish and Islamic writings. Chief of the archangels, Michael is the Angel of Repentance. It is Michael, in Revelations 20:1 who will descend from heaven with the key to the Abyss and a great chain in his hand to bind Satan for a thousand years. It was foretold in the book of Daniel that Michael would reappear again, when the world was in real trouble. The Dead Sea Scrolls included one entitled "The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness", and in that ancient manuscript, Michael was called "The Prince of Light". In this wall relief, Michael is depicted as the Angel of the Final Reckoning and the Weigher of Souls. He holds the scales of justice in one hand and his sword in the other.
