HISTORY: The Feathered Serpent appeared prominently in the religions and mythology of tribes throughout Mesoamerica, beginning with the Olmecs, between 1400 B.C. and 400 B.C. The people of Teotihuacan also included the Feathered Serpent among their deities. Their Temple of the Feathered Serpent is covered with some of the earliest-known images of Feathered Serpents, which are the basis for our reproduction. Click here to view originals from the temple in Mexico. The most prominent incarnation of the Feathered Serpent was the Aztec God, Quetzalcoatl, who was associated with the Planet Venus and revered as the bringer of knowledge and the inventor of books.
The image of the Feathered Serpent appears in Pre-Columbian artifacts from throughout Mesoamerica. This striking, 3-dimensional wall sculpture is copied from those carved on the Temple of the Feathered Serpent.
