Queen Nefertiti Bust
E-012SPM Mounted on a marble base to sit on tabletop, 9.5" tall.
MYSTERIOUS BEAUTY - Nefertiti has long been considered one of the world's great beauties--largely because of this 1365 B.C. image of her that has survived the centuries. Alluring and mysterious, this beautiful queen adds a touch of grace and elegance to any decor. Reproduced from the original in the Dahlem Museum of Berlin.
HISTORY: In ancient Egyptian, Nefertiti means "the Beautiful One is Come". Her bust of painted limestone was found by the German professor Borchardtt in 1912 at Tel-El-Amarna, ancient Akhetaton, which was the King's new capital in Middle Egypt in what used to be the workshop of the sculptor, Thutmes. Nefertiti was the daughter of a high dignitary of the Pharaoh's court. She was the wife of King Akhenaten, who ruled from 1379 to 1362 B.C. She was an influential Queen, but is principally remembered for her personal beauty and the lovely image of her that was carved centuries ago. Details of her life are veiled by the mist of time. One of her six daughters was Ankhesenamun, Tutankhamun's wife. Her tomb has never been discovered. Nefertiti's bust was taken out of Egypt and ended up in Berlin under unclear circumstances.
