Made from cultured marble or bonded stone with a rich bronze finish, these fountains run on ordinary household current. The pumps send water up to gently spin the crystal orbs before cascading down to return to the reservoirs. HISTORY: Kuan Yin means 'one who hears the cries of the world'. She is the embodyment of "yin", and personifies the compassion of Buddha for the needy.
The Happy Buddha is really Ho Tai (Budai, Hotai, Hotei), a monk of the Later Liang Dynasty (907-923 AD) of China. He was known for carrying a sack of candy which he handed out to children in the street. He is patron of the weak, the poor and children. His sack which never empties and takes the sadness from people of this world. He represents prosperity and happiness. His big belly represents wealth. Statuettes of the Laughing Buddha are found in homes and businesses throughout China and Japan.
Gautama Buddha was born in 563 B.C. in northeast India, the son of the King of the Sakyas. Suddhodana, who ruled at Kapilavastu, on the border of Nepal.
At age 29 he left the palace and his family and went to a hermitage where he became the monk Gautama, or, as he is still called, Sakyamuni. One day, meditating under a sacred fig tree, he attained perfect illumination (Bodhi). He had become a Buddha. From there on he traveled and preached for 44 years what was to become one of the main religions of the world. He died at Kusinagara at age 80.
