MYTHOLOGY:  Osiris, the Resurrection God, is the central figure in the Egyptian afterlife myth, and Egyptian mythology as a whole. His name means "The Seat of the Eye". To die and be properly prepared for the afterlife was to become one with Osiris in the underworld he ruled. Osiris received earthly rule from his father, Geb. His brother Seth, who envied him the throne, enticed Osiris into a chest and flung him into the Nile. His wife sought and found his body and with her own magic powers and the help of Thoth, Nephthys, Anubis and Horus, restored Osiris to life. Osiris, however, already belonged to the world of the dead. Although he could have reclaimed his throne after his resurrection, he preferred to remain a god ruling over the Land of the Dead, leaving his vindication on earth in the hands of his son, Horus.

Osiris, God of Resurrection, is the central figure in ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife. Here he is shown seated on a thrown, holding the crook and flail, symbols of kingly authority, which is fitting, since he was a king in his earthly life, according to myth.  This striking, gold and color image of the ancient god  is an eye-catching addition to your home or office decor.
